I am feeling very lucky to have escaped the cold English winter and come to kiteboard in South Africa for a month with my two sisters. Three blonds let loose… uh-oh! :p
Straight off the plane in Cape Town we went for a sesh at Blouberg with massive wind of about 30 knotts and 13ft waves. This is just a typical day here and it’s clear how this place is famous for mega loops with pro kitesurfers throwing down everywhere! We stayed at ‘The Endless Summer beach house’ in Blouberg, a really friendly hostel where we could all chill out around a braii and feast on all kinds of South African meet after a day kitesurfing. I had some awesome sessions jumping big but after almost a week wanted to check out the flat water at Langebaan, where we still are now.
When we arrived in Langebaan I knew we were in the right place. It is a kite paradise. Right outside our hostel, just downwind of the main beach there is an amazing freestyle spot. A spit of sandbags blocks out the chop and with a cross-off shore wind the water is butter flat. I have really enjoyed
trying to stick some new tricks and my riding has really progressed.

This last week there has not been much wind which everyone says is extraordinary. Apparently the wind kicks in in November and then usually blows most days until March so hopefully this
calm patch won’t last for long. Anyhow, one of the best things about Cape Town is that it’s such a beautiful city with so much to offer besides wind and sun. Our first day of no wind I missioned it up table mountain with Maddy, my little sis who is the only person that truly brings out my competitive side. Mid-day sun…no water… made it in 1hr 15… that’s got to be close to the record?! We even managed a press-up session at the top!

The best decision we have made all trip was to hire a car. After trekking back from the supermarket with hot beers on day four we finally gave into the advice given by EVRYONE that a
car is well worth it here. We hired ‘Jerry’, our squeaky engined pile of rust and took him on the most incredible trip around Cape Point. We saw nature at its best. The point where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean was stunning and I’ve never seen anywhere else where all this is so close to a buzzing city. We even spotted an ostrich but afraid we couldn’t get a picture as his legs were too fast for Jerry’s squeaky wheels to keep up with. :(

The night life is also buzzing here. We spent Christmas night at the Board House, a bar in Blouberg and it seemed to be the Hollywood of kiteboarding with big names everywhere and Ruben Lenten on the decks.
I am looking forward to the wind coming back so we can kite some more here before heading back to Cape Town to check out Big Bay and some other spots there. :)
Thanks again to my sponsors, Flexifoil for the kit. I couldn't be enjoying it more!
